You need a doctorate (or eligibility to begin doctoral studies) and a signed hosting agreement with an approved Swedish research body, with at least half your time spent on research.
The researcher permit is for people carrying out research at an approved research principal in Sweden. You generally need a doctoral degree, or to be eligible to start doctoral studies, and an invitation from an approved institution.
A core condition is that at least half of your working hours must be devoted to research. Under newer rules, PhD students who hold a hosting agreement with an approved research principal can also qualify under this route.
