To sponsor an orphaned brother, sister, nephew, niece, or grandchild, the relative must be under 18 years old and must not be married or in a common-law relationship.
Both of the child's parents must have passed away. The category does not apply where a parent is still alive but cannot care for the child, or where someone other than a parent is caring for them while a parent is living. These conditions are strictly assessed.
