You generally need at least 1 year (1,560 hours) of related, paid work experience within the past 3 years. Volunteer work and unpaid internships do not count.
The RCIP is aimed at skilled workers, so paid work experience is central. You must show at least one year of related experience, measured as 1,560 hours, accumulated within the three years before you apply.
The experience must be paid: volunteer hours and unpaid internships are excluded. Some applicants, such as certain international graduates, may have tailored rules, but the standard expectation is genuine, relevant, paid work that connects to your job offer's occupation.
