The transit visa is designed only for short connections. It shows that you meet the requirements to transit for up to 48 hours through a Canadian airport on your way to another country.
Depending on your itinerary, the visa can be issued for one or two entries — for example, if you transit through Canada on both the outbound and return legs of your trip. If you actually want to spend time visiting Canada rather than just connecting, you need a visitor visa instead.
