The EU permit adds intra-EU mobility and harmonised equal-treatment rights, whereas a national permanent permit is generally valid only within Greece.
Both routes can give long-term security of residence, but they are not identical. A national permanent residence permit is grounded in Greek law and generally confers rights within Greece only.
The EU long-term resident permit, by contrast, is built around EU-wide standards, including the right to move and work in other Member States and harmonised equal-treatment rules. EU reforms aim to put the two permits on a more level footing so applicants have a real choice; consider which set of rights matters most for your plans.
