The EU Residence Card document is valid for up to ten years. Importantly, the document is a proof of status with an expiry date, but the long-term resident status it represents is held for an indefinite period as long as you keep meeting the conditions.
When the card nears expiry you renew it for another ten years via the Enter Hungary online platform. Because renewal is about re-issuing the card rather than re-qualifying for status, the process is generally straightforward provided you have not triggered a withdrawal ground such as a long absence or a change in your circumstances.
