Can I lose my Malta Long-Term Residence status if I spend too much time abroad?

Long-Term Residence is durable but not unconditional. Your status can be withdrawn if you remain outside the EU for 12 or more consecutive months, or if you are absent from Malta for six or more consecutive years.

Status can also be revoked if it was obtained fraudulently, or on grounds of serious criminal conduct or an expulsion order. To protect your status, keep your time outside the EU within the limits and retain evidence of your ties to Malta.
