You must earn at least 50% of the credits for each academic year. Falling short without a valid reason can put your permit at risk.
The Netherlands applies a study-progress rule. You are expected to obtain at least 50% of the credits (ECTS) for each year of your programme, and your institution reports your progress to the IND annually.
If you do not meet the 50% threshold and have no valid reason (such as illness or personal circumstances recognised by the school), the institution must inform the IND, which can then review and withdraw your residence permit.
