There are two main routes: investing at least EUR 250,000 in shares of a Hungarian National Bank-registered real estate fund, or donating at least EUR 1,000,000 to a Hungarian public higher education institution.
Hungary's Guest Investor Residence Permit recognizes specific qualifying investments rather than any general business activity. The principal options are buying at least EUR 250,000 worth of shares in a real estate investment fund registered with the Hungarian National Bank, where the fund must keep at least 40% of its net assets in Hungarian residential real estate, or making a donation of at least EUR 1,000,000 to a Hungarian public higher education institution for educational, research or artistic purposes.
For the fund-share route, the shares must be held for a minimum of five years. Because the eligible instruments and thresholds are defined narrowly and can change, confirm the current list of approved funds and amounts before committing any money.
