A click day is the exact moment the online portal opens and applications are timestamped in chronological order. Because quotas are limited, applying in the first seconds matters.
Each year the government sets fixed quotas (numerical limits) for how many non-EU workers can be authorised in each category, such as seasonal, non-seasonal subordinate, and self-employed. When the portal opens on the designated click day, employer requests are queued strictly in the order they are received.
Because demand usually far exceeds the available places, popular categories can fill very quickly. Employers are normally allowed to prepare and store draft applications in advance so they can be submitted the instant the window opens. Missing the click day, or submitting late, often means waiting for the next annual round.
