What support do refugees receive after being resettled in Canada?

Resettled refugees are not simply admitted and left on their own. Depending on the program, financial and settlement assistance is provided for about the first year after arrival, helping with the transition into life in Canada.

Under the government-assisted stream this support comes from the Canadian government, while under private sponsorship it comes from the sponsoring group, which provides material, financial and emotional help. This first-year support is intended to help refugees establish themselves while they settle in.
