You can sponsor an orphaned sibling, nephew, niece, or grandchild under 18, or, if you have no closer relatives in Canada, another relative of any age.
This category covers adopted children and certain other relatives. You may sponsor an orphaned brother, sister, nephew, niece, or grandchild who is under 18 and is not married or in a common-law relationship.
You may also sponsor a relative of any age and relationship under the lonely Canadian rule, but only if you do not have a living spouse, common-law or conjugal partner, child, parent, sibling, grandparent, aunt, uncle, niece, or nephew who is already a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or registered Indian.
