Since late 2024, post-secondary students generally cannot simply switch DLIs online and must usually apply for a new study permit to change institutions.
Transferring schools is no longer a simple account update for most post-secondary study permit holders. Since November 8, 2024, students are generally expected to stay enrolled at the DLI named on their permit.
To change DLIs, you usually have to apply for a new study permit. As of January 2025, such applications also generally require a valid Provincial or Territorial Attestation Letter. Switching schools without following these steps can create gaps or compliance issues.
