What happens to my Norwegian family permit if I divorce or separate?

If you were granted a family immigration permit based on your spouse or cohabitant and you later divorce or separate, you generally cannot renew that permit on the same basis.

If you wish to stay, you can check whether you qualify for a different permit, such as a work or study permit, or in some cases an independent permit. There are also special protections for people who have experienced abuse in the relationship, who may be able to apply for an independent residence permit.
