ICT permits are issued for limited initial periods and can be renewed up to overall maximums of about seven years for executives and managers and five years for specialized-knowledge workers.
ICT work permits are not open-ended. They are typically granted for an initial term and can be extended, but there are cumulative caps on how long you can stay in this status.
Executives and senior managers generally have a longer ceiling than specialized-knowledge workers. Once you reach the maximum, you usually must work outside Canada for the company for a period before you can qualify for another ICT transfer. If you want to remain in Canada beyond these limits, you would typically need to move to a different status or pursue permanent residence.
