The first permit for studies is generally granted for up to 15 months; if the studies cover a shorter period it is granted for the academic year or course plus three months, and EU mobility programmes can give a two-year first permit.
Poland sets the validity of a student's first temporary residence permit according to the length of the studies. As a general rule, the first permit is granted for up to 15 months. If your studies justify a shorter stay, the permit is granted for the academic year or the duration of the course, extended by three months.
Where your studies are part of an EU or multilateral mobility programme, or an agreement between institutions, the first permit can be granted for two years. Subsequent permits are then issued for the period needed to complete your studies, up to a maximum of three years at a time.
