Do I have to meet an income requirement to sponsor an adopted child?

For most family sponsorships you must meet a minimum necessary income, but there is an exception for adopted children. The income test does not apply if the person you are sponsoring is a child you adopted or intend to adopt in Canada and that child has no children of their own.

Even when the income test does not apply, you still sign an undertaking to support the person financially. For other relatives outside this exception, income requirements may still apply, so check your specific situation.
