There is an overall limit of 7 years that you can spend on student-related permissions in Ireland (covering Stamps 2, 2A and related student stamps). Any new programme you start must be able to finish before you reach that 7-year ceiling.
Within that, the time you can spend specifically on English-language courses is limited to two years. These caps are designed to ensure the student route is used for genuine, time-limited study rather than indefinitely.
