The G permit is a commuter permit, not a residence permit, so it does not confer the right to reside in Switzerland long-term. Holders are not eligible for family reunification on the basis of the G permit. If family members wish to live or work in Switzerland, they must qualify for and obtain their own separate residence or work authorization. Many G permit holders therefore keep their family home in the neighbouring country and commute, which is consistent with the permit's purpose.
