Permanent residence is durable but not unconditional; prolonged absence from Slovenia and the EU, among other grounds, can lead to the status ceasing.
Permanent residence is designed to be stable, but it is not the same as citizenship and can end in certain situations. The most common risk is leaving Slovenia and the EU for an extended, continuous period, which can cause the status to cease because you are no longer genuinely resident.
Other grounds can include serious public-order or security reasons, or if the permit was obtained through false information. If you plan a long stay abroad, check the current absence thresholds with the administrative unit in advance so you do not unintentionally forfeit a status that took years to earn.
