It does not convert automatically -- as a third-country graduate you (and your employer) must meet the qualified-worker conditions for an L or B work permit.
There is no automatic switch from a student permit to a work permit. After graduation, a third-country national who finds a job must qualify under the rules for skilled non-EU/EFTA workers: the role should suit a manager, specialist or skilled professional; the employer must show that priority was given to Swiss and EU/EFTA candidates; and qualifications, salary and working conditions must meet customary standards. The six-month job-search window after graduation is meant to give you time to secure such an offer.
