It's Ireland's premium work permit for in-demand, higher-paid roles, offering a fast route to long-term residence and immediate family reunification.
The Critical Skills Employment Permit targets occupations on Ireland's Critical Skills Occupations List, such as ICT, engineering and healthcare. It requires a qualifying job offer meeting the salary threshold, relevant qualifications, and a minimum two-year contract with a registered employer. Unlike the General Employment Permit, it has no labour-market needs test and allows family members to join immediately. After two years, holders can move to Stamp 4 — full permission to work and run a business without any employment permit — which counts toward citizenship by naturalisation. The permit is issued by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment (DETE).
