Family reunification is not automatic; the sponsor must show the family can live together in acceptable conditions. A central requirement is adequate housing of a size appropriate for the number of people who will live in it.
For non-EU/EFTA sponsors there are additional conditions, in particular sufficient and stable financial means so the family will not depend on social assistance, plus integration-related requirements. EU/EFTA sponsors face lighter conditions under the free-movement agreement, focused mainly on adequate accommodation.
