
Yes. Your occupation must be on the skilled occupation list that the nominating state or territory accepts, and you need a positive skills assessment for it.
For the 190, your nominated occupation must appear on the relevant skilled occupation list and be one that your chosen state or territory is actively nominating. States publish their own occupation lists and can open or close occupations during the year.
You also need a positive skills assessment from the assessing authority for that occupation before you are invited. Because each state sets its own criteria, the same occupation may be available in one state and closed in another, so it is worth checking several jurisdictions.
