IEC is a temporary program, but the Canadian work experience you gain can later support permanent residence applications through other federal or provincial economic streams.
IEC itself does not grant or guarantee permanent residence. It is a temporary work program intended to let young people travel and work in Canada for a defined period.
That said, skilled Canadian work experience earned during your IEC stay can strengthen a future application under economic immigration programs, such as Express Entry streams or provincial nominee programs, where Canadian work history is valued. Many participants use IEC as a stepping stone, then transition to a longer-term pathway once they have local experience and connections.
