If due diligence is not passed the application can be refused; you do not become a citizen, and not all fees are refundable.
Every applicant and qualifying dependent over a set age must undergo due diligence and background checks. The programme can refuse an application where the checks raise concerns, where there is a serious criminal record, or where information is found to be false or incomplete.
If you are refused, you do not acquire citizenship. Due diligence and processing fees are typically non-refundable because the work has already been done, although the position on the larger investment depends on the stage reached. Working with an authorised agent and disclosing information accurately reduces the risk of refusal.
