The right itself does not expire, but a certificate of entitlement is tied to the passport it sits in, so it must be transferred when that passport expires.
Right of abode is a status, not a visa, so it does not run out the way a temporary permission does. Once you have it, it remains yours unless you cease to be a Commonwealth citizen (for the Commonwealth routes).
The practical catch is the certificate of entitlement: because it is endorsed in a specific passport, you will need to apply for a new certificate when you renew or replace that passport. The underlying right continues, but your proof of it has to be kept current.
