Most skilled workers use the Skilled Worker residence permit: you need relevant qualifications and a concrete Norwegian job offer with pay in line with local norms, and you apply to UDI. Some occupations also need separate Norwegian authorisation.
For a non-EEA professional, the main way to move to Norway for a job is the Skilled Worker residence permit. You generally need completed vocational training, a university or university-college degree, or equivalent special qualifications, together with a concrete job offer from a Norwegian employer for a role that genuinely requires those qualifications.
The position normally has to be full-time, or at least 80 percent, with pay and conditions no poorer than Norwegian norms for the occupation. Certain regulated professions, such as in healthcare, also require separate Norwegian authorisation before you can take up the work.
Applications go to UDI, which assesses both your qualifications and the match to the job, so careful documentation matters. EU/EEA and Swiss citizens, by contrast, do not need this permit and simply rely on free movement. ACME can review your offer and qualifications against the skilled-worker criteria, and we always suggest verifying the current requirements on udi.no before applying.
