Family Reunification lets a non-EU national lawfully resident in Italy with a qualifying permit bring close family to join them. The sponsor applies for a nulla osta through the Sportello Unico; the family member then gets a family visa and a permesso di soggiorno per motivi familiari.
This route allows a non-EU sponsor lawfully resident in Italy to be joined by close family — typically a spouse, minor children and certain dependent relatives. The sponsor must hold a qualifying permesso di soggiorno valid for at least one year (or EU long-term residence) and applies for a nulla osta through the Sportello Unico per l'Immigrazione. The family member then obtains a family visa and, on arrival, a permesso di soggiorno per motivi familiari.
Two practical conditions matter most. The sponsor needs a minimum income tied to the social allowance (assegno sociale), scaled by family size, and suitable accommodation in Italy that meets the certified housing standards. You also need documentary proof of the family relationship.
Because the income and housing thresholds are scaled and can be updated, it is worth confirming the current figures before applying. ACME can check whether the sponsor meets the income and accommodation conditions and help assemble the relationship evidence, and we are glad to offer an initial consultation.
