The study permit is for non-EEA students admitted to an approved Norwegian institution for full-time study. It allows limited part-time work but does not count towards permanent residence.
The Study Permit is the residence permit for international students from outside the EEA who have been admitted to full-time studies at an approved Norwegian educational institution. The foundation of the application is that admission, alongside proof that you can cover your living costs for the study period and that you have somewhere to live in Norway.
UDI also looks for a genuine intention and ability to follow normal study progression. The permit includes limited part-time work rights so you can support yourself during your studies, which many students find helpful.
One thing to plan for: time spent on a study permit does not count towards permanent residence, so if settling long term is your goal you will usually need to move onto a qualifying permit such as Skilled Worker afterwards. ACME can help you think through that transition, and we recommend confirming the current funds and admission requirements on udi.no before applying.
