Yes. You must complete the 'I Belong' integration course and pass a basic Maltese language test.
Unlike short-stay permits, EU Long-Term Residence has an integration requirement. Applicants must complete Malta's "I Belong" integration course of 100 hours and achieve at least 75% in the related exam.
You also need to pass a Maltese language test at MQF Level 2 with a minimum score of 65%. Both certificates generally need to be dated within one year of your application, so it is worth booking these well before you intend to submit your file.
