Is the research residence application in Slovakia free, and what documents are required?

A benefit of the research route is that the application for temporary residence for research and development is free of charge, unlike many other categories.

Typical documents include the application form, valid passport, photographs, the hosting agreement (in Slovak), proof of financial means and a criminal-record extract from the country where you have lived longest in the past decade, properly translated and legalised. Health insurance valid in Slovakia must usually be provided within 30 days of collecting your residence card. The host organisation can help assemble the agreement, but the personal documents are your responsibility.
