The NEF route is structured as a contribution to national development rather than an investment, so the money is not refundable. Unlike the bond route, you do not recover the principal.

In exchange, the NEF is the cheapest path to citizenship in net terms, because there is no capital to hold and no separate large administration fee on the donation itself. Due diligence and processing fees are paid in addition and are also non-refundable regardless of the outcome.
