Yes. Most applicants must pass the Life in the UK test and show sufficient knowledge of English, Welsh or Scottish Gaelic.
Naturalisation has a knowledge-of-language-and-life requirement. You will normally need to pass the Life in the UK test, a multiple-choice test on British history, customs and traditions.
You must also demonstrate sufficient knowledge of English (or Welsh or Scottish Gaelic), usually through an approved English qualification, a degree taught in English, or by being a national of a majority English-speaking country. Some applicants, such as older people or those with certain conditions, may be exempt.
