You can usually continue on the D4 if you move to another accredited institution or programme, but you must keep valid enrolment and inform AIMA so your residence permit stays accurate.
The D4 is tied to genuine study or research at a recognised Portuguese institution rather than to one specific school. If you transfer course or institution, the key is that you remain continuously and genuinely enrolled in an eligible programme.
Let AIMA know about the change at renewal or as required, and keep documentation such as your new enrolment letter. A gap in enrolment, or dropping below full-time study, can put your permit at risk, so arrange any switch so your student status never lapses.
