The long-term resident's residence permit is issued with permanent validity, meaning the status does not expire the way a temporary permit does. The residence permit card also serves as your official identity document in Estonia.
While the status is permanent, the plastic ID card has a limited validity period printed on it and must be renewed before it expires. Renewing the card is an administrative step and does not mean reapplying for your permanent status.
