
If your study permit is for one year or longer you are normally registered in the population register and gain access to public healthcare; for shorter studies you must arrange comprehensive private health insurance.
Students admitted for at least one year are usually entered in the Swedish population register, which gives access to subsidised public healthcare on the same basis as residents. For programmes shorter than a year you generally cannot register and must arrange your own cover.
Where insurance is required, it must be comprehensive, covering emergency and other medical care, hospitalisation, and emergency dental treatment. Carry proof of the policy with your application, because missing insurance is a common reason for delay on short courses.
