A hosting agreement is a formal contract between you and an accredited Cyprus research institution that sets out your research project, conditions and duration; it is the foundation of the permit.
The Cyprus Researcher Residence Permit, which implements EU Directive 2016/801 through national Law 7(I)/2019, is built around a hosting agreement. This is a signed agreement between the third-country researcher and an approved research organisation in Cyprus that establishes the research project, the working relationship, the duration and the conditions.
Without a valid hosting agreement from a government-accredited research institution you cannot qualify under this category. The host organisation effectively sponsors your stay, and the project described in the agreement determines how long your permit is issued for. Before applying, confirm that your intended institution is recognised as an approved research body by the Cyprus authorities.
