Applicants aged 18 to 54 on the day they sign the application must take the citizenship test and demonstrate an adequate knowledge of Canada and of the responsibilities and privileges of citizenship. The test covers Canada's history, geography, economy, government, laws and symbols, based on the official study guide, and is usually written in English or French. Applicants younger than 18 or 55 and older do not have to take the test.
