Renewal depends on showing your studies are genuine and serious; weak results or a course change are not automatic refusals, and one repeated year per cycle is generally tolerated.
At renewal the prefecture assesses whether your studies have a real and serious character, looking at attendance, exam results, diplomas obtained, and any change of direction. A single repeated year (redoublement) within a study cycle does not automatically disqualify you.
If you changed courses or had a difficult year, you should be ready to explain it with documents and a coherent plan. Repeated failures, prolonged inactivity, or an inability to justify your academic path are what put renewals at risk, not a single setback that you can reasonably account for.
