A dependent child is your (or your spouse/partner's) biological or adopted child who is under 22 years old and not married or in a common-law relationship.
For immigration purposes, a child qualifies as a dependent if they are the biological or adopted child of you or your spouse or partner, are under the age of 22, and are not married and not living in a common-law relationship.
This age cut-off of 'under 22' applies to applications received on or after October 24, 2017 (it was previously 'under 19'). The child's age is generally 'locked in' at a specific point in the process, so it's important to apply before the child reaches the cut-off.
