Applicants between 18 and 65 must both pass the Life in the UK test and show sufficient knowledge of English to qualify for indefinite leave to remain through long residence.
If you are outside the 18 to 65 age range you can apply to extend your stay instead, rather than meeting the knowledge and language requirements at that point. Plan ahead, as the Life in the UK test must be booked and passed before you apply.
