Yes. Continuous-type residence on this permit can build toward a permanent residence permit once you meet the residence, work-history and language requirements.
Time spent in Finland on a continuous (A) employed-person permit counts toward the residence period needed for a permanent residence permit. You generally renew the permit before reaching that point.
As of January 2026 the permanent residence permit also carries a work-history requirement and a language-skills requirement in addition to the period-of-residence requirement. Plan ahead by keeping continuous employment and starting to build Finnish or Swedish language skills early.
