The Blue Card is issued for up to 5 years but for at least 24 months; if your contract is shorter than 24 months, the card covers the contract period plus three months, capped at 24 months.
Validity is tied to the standard EU Blue Card framework. Where your employment is long-term, the permit can be granted for as long as five years, with a minimum of 24 months.
If your work contract runs for less than 24 months, the card is issued for the length of the contract plus an extra three months, but the total cannot exceed the 24-month maximum in that scenario. This buffer is intended to give you time to extend your contract or find new qualifying employment.
