The Blue Card can be issued for up to five years and stays valid up to three months after a contract ends; you can keep working as a Blue Card holder, but other employment may require a separate work permit (TWV).
A Netherlands EU Blue Card is a temporary regular residence permit issued for a maximum of five years, and it remains valid for up to three months after your employment contract ends, giving you a buffer if your job finishes.
You may work as a Blue Card holder and may also undertake self-employed work. However, taking on other employment can require an additional work permit (TWV), and you must continue to meet the salary and qualification conditions. If you change jobs, make sure the new role still satisfies the Blue Card criteria so your permit is not put at risk.
