It allows limited part-time work during studies but does not lead to permanent residence, and family reunification is not available while on student status.
Hungary's implementation of the EU Blue Card for highly qualified non-EU workers. Unlike the general employment permit, it is not restricted by nationality. It requires a qualifying job, a relevant degree or experience, and a gross salary above an annually set threshold, and it is issued for multi-year periods.

Eligible categories are narrow, covering minister-specified professions and groups such as professional athletes and coaches, performers, and film-industry workers.

It is valid for one year and renewable once, but holders cannot work for Hungarian employers or own shares in Hungarian companies, and it does not lead to permanent residence.

It is generally available after at least three years of continuous lawful residence, or through qualifying family ties. From 2025 most applicants must also pass the Hungarian Cultural Knowledge Exam.
Relaunched in 2024, Hungary's investor route grants a long-term (up to 10 years, renewable) residence permit to non-EU nationals who make a qualifying investment in the national economic interest. The remaining options are units in an approved real-estate fund or a donation to a Hungarian higher-education institution; the earlier direct property-purchase option was withdrawn from 2025.

Importantly, under the 2024 law many temporary-work, student and seasonal permit holders cannot sponsor family; reunification is available to sponsors such as researchers, Hungarian Card, EU Blue Card and guest investor permit holders.
