Family reunification lets a legally resident sponsor bring eligible family to Portugal. The sponsor first gets AIMA's prior approval, then the family member applies for the D6 visa at a consulate.
The D7 is Portugal's residency visa for people with stable passive income — pensions, rents, dividends or investments — who can live in Portugal without working locally. It is a popular route for retirees and the financially independent.
Portugal's Golden Visa (ARI) is residence by investment with minimal stay requirements. Since Law 56/2023 in October 2023, real-estate purchase and standalone capital transfer no longer qualify; current routes centre on funds, company capitalisation with jobs, job creation, research and cultural support.
After holding a valid temporary residence permit continuously for five years, non-EU nationals can apply to AIMA for permanent residence, with A2-level Portuguese, no relevant convictions and means of support.
