Even in the very-highly-qualified category, the Red-White-Red Card is initially tied to the employer named in your application. It gives 24 months of settlement and the right to work for that specific employer, with self-employment only as a subsidiary activity.

After 21 months of qualifying employment within a 24-month period, you can upgrade to the Red-White-Red Card plus, which provides unlimited access to the labour market and the freedom to change employers. Until you reach the Card plus, treat a change of employer as something that needs to be cleared with the authorities first.
