Through the single residence and work permit: the administrative unit issues it and the Employment Service of Slovenia grants the work consent, usually for up to two years at first.
Slovenia uses a single residence and work permit — one document covering both residence and the right to work. Once you have a Slovenian employer, the administrative unit conducts the procedure and issues the permit, while the Employment Service of Slovenia (ZRSZ) grants the required consent, which generally involves a labour-market check unless the case is exempt. The first single permit is issued for the duration of the employment contract but for no more than two years, and can be extended for up to three years. Highly qualified workers can instead apply for the EU Blue Card, which is usually exempt from the labour-market test and offers EU mobility.
