Generally only managers, specialists and other skilled professionals -- typically with a higher-education degree plus several years of experience -- and only when Swiss/EU-EFTA workers cannot fill the role.
Switzerland admits third-country workers only in limited numbers and mainly for qualified roles. Applicants are expected to be a manager, specialist or other skilled professional, usually holding a degree from a university or higher-education institution together with a number of years of professional work experience. The employer must show that priority (precedence) was given to Swiss and EU/EFTA workers and that the salary, social-security contributions and terms of employment match the conditions customary for the region, profession and sector. Federal quotas also apply.
